bryan and i visited new hope this weekend. his mom has a little rock 'n roll shop there, and it's the perfect excuse to leave the city. new hope is a little stretch of art galleries, antique shops, restaurants, and gift stores that's about an hour north of philadelphia. the delaware river runs right next to new hope, and separates it from lambertsville, new jersey (which is also very similar to new hope, but is mostly comprised of antique stores). you can walk across the bridge from town to town. it's a very scenic area and i would adore living there. if you don't feel like walking on the main street (which can get congested with people), you can choose the more picturesque route: a little canal path that runs parallel to the delaware. gorgeous victorian era homes line either side of the water, and many people set up chairs to watch the geese and ducks float by. most of the wrought-iron fences are covered with ivy, and you'll often find the most gorgeous stone patios you've ever seen.
