i was in whole foods the other week, and saw a stand with at least eight different salt scrubs - for $12.99 a pound.
for salt.
with a couple of drops of oil.
i
knew i could recreate it for much less. here's my go at it!

meet the main cast of characters: salt, sunflower oil (or apricot oil), mandarin orange oil, jojoba oil, lemongrass oil, ginger, an orange (yes, that's a clementine - we were out of oranges). you'll also need something to stir the mixture with, and a container to store it in.

start by measuring out one cup of salt.

pour this in your container.

next, measure out half of a cup of oil (i used sunflower oil, but you could also use almond oil or apricot oil. try and stay with something scent-free). pour the oil into the container with the salt.

grab the jojoba oil. this stuff is amazing - you can use it on your hair or skin (it's also a great make-up remover). put about 8-10 drops of this in the salt and sunflower oil mixture.

the essential oils will add the scent to the salt scrub. i used lemongrass and mandarin orange, but you can use whatever you'd like. i bought mine from the organic section of wegman's.

i like my shower stuff fragrant (as much as bryan may protest). i put about ten drops of each oil into the mixture.

zest a couple of tablespoons of orange (in this case, clementine). peel the lemongrass, and zest about a tablespoon of this. take it easy on how much you add, it's a strong smell! put everything into the container with the oils and salt.

mix, mix, mix. make sure all of the ingredients are very thoroughly mixed. you wouldn't want a handful of plain salt, and a handful of oil, now would you? i used a wooden skewer.

take a peek! a pretty color, right?

and you're done! if you have sensitive skin, use sugar instead of salt.
if you try making your own salt scrub, i'd love to see the results.
