it's not a fair until you have funnel cake...
my favorite thing from the whole fair - piglets! there was a big mama pig with twelve or so piglets. it was ridiculously cute - they were all sleeping, and then one baby pig decided he was hungry and woke up and started squealing. this woke up all of his siblings, and they squealed and squealed until mama woke up and rolled over to feed them.
of course, i had to jam my hands in the pen and pet all of them. bryan had to drag me away.
this little guy is only two weeks old! there was a glass container with a heat lamp attached right next to him, where more baby ducks were just hatching. one guy had poked a hole in his shell and was just waiting to pop out.
i thought this was really adorable - the two pigs were sleeping right next to each other, snouts almost touching. i think they're some of the cutest animals ever, and i'd love to have a pig (once we move out of philadelphia, of course). they're extremely intelligent and can be litter trained. you should search for pig trick videos on youtube - look for the one with the pig pushing the grocery cart!
a sassy little sheep. this was one of the bigger kinds - the babydoll sheep were my favorite. they're tiny and super fluffy.
of course, i had to pet all of the animals. there were tons of cows (some for milk, some for beef). this is one of the milk cows - the beef ones were absolutely huge. they kept licking my arms and tried to put my hand in their mouth. definitely kind of freaky.
people from the surrounding counties submit their produce, in this case apples, to be judged against everyone else. there's a best in category and best in show (for produce). this year's first place was a green and cream speckled squash.
a ferris wheel, black against the sky.
my favorite quilt from the fair! this was just absolutely amazing - the quilt was gigantic, with little patches of embroidered boys and girls doing cute things, like playing with dolls or pushing a wheelbarrow. this makes me want to start quilting, asap.
