today was my last day student teaching second grade. i had no idea what to expect when i first started; i was extremely nervous about the teacher i would be working with. i like to stay very organized with my work, plan everything a week in advance, and have routines. however, i couldn't have asked for a better placement. my cooperating teacher was so knowledgeable and experienced, and she made me confident in my teaching. the kids were amazing; they always tried their best, were well behaved, and respectful.

apparently, over the course of the last week, they had been planning a surprise goodbye ice-cream party. a few of the classroom moms came in and set up an ice-cream bar with an array of different toppings. the class got me a teacher tote-bag with my name embroidered at the top and signed the front. on the back, they all wrote different things that we had experienced as a class (such as books that we read or field trips that we went on). how adorable is this?
the best part was a book of letters that they made. each student wrote a goodbye letter, telling me their favorite thing that they had learned and to come back and visit. here are a couple of my favorites:my heart. i had to stop reading them in the classroom because i was starting to cry. they included some books to read in my future classroom, and did this adorable teacher-kit poem. each child stood up and gave me a little object and read a line of the poem, such as "a paper clip to help you keep everything together", "a band-aid to heal hurt feelings", and "a marble in case you loose yours". it was so sweet and heartfelt and a perfect ending to my experience there. i miss them so much already!
