Tai Cheong Bakery

*FINALLY UPDATED TO INCLUDE PICTURES OF THE PASTRIES*

This is possibly the most famous Chinese bakery on Hong Kong island. They used to be somewhere else, but the rising rent made them move to this new location after there was a lot of scandal about an institution like this having to close down.

Anyway, I'm not much for egg tarts, but this place does make them well. You can see from the picture that there's usually a queue for their egg tarts. From the hair and eyebrow situation, I would guess that these people are Taiwanese.

I was going to photograph the egg tarts, too, but too many people were inside. Anyway, as you can see, it's quite a popular destination, and if you're in the Central area, worth a visit. The egg tarts are ridiculously cheap, like HKD30 for a dozen or something. Tai Cheong is at Lyndhurst Terrace, right next to the HSBC. You can't miss it (or the queue).

*Alright, I finally got my shit together and photographed the pastries at the shop. Also, I was wrong about the egg tarts, they are HKD5 each, but the price does go down the more you buy.

Mmm...love the chicken pie. Not too sweet, lovely crust.

Assorted pastries. I used to be addicted to lotus pastry with egg yolk. I'm one of those disgusting people who like to save their favourite part for last, so I like to eat everything around the yolk and then nibble on the yolk and let it crumble into my mouth. I know it's gross so I don't do it in public, okay?

These are super filling. I usually only eat half.
