this dress sat in my studio for the longest time, just waiting for me to make it shorter. it was originally floor length and had a built in sash (i'm not particularly fond of them), and was a bit overwhelming. i removed tons of the length and the ties and i absolutely love it now. the lace has aged a bit, and almost looked tea-dyed. i purchased these super-bright tights in new york. i definitely wasn't thinking about pairing them with black, i had more autumny colors (reds and browns) in mind. as i was rooting through my closet, looking for something to wear, these two pieces intersected and just seemed to make sense together.

after a ridiculous day of subbing yesterday (i sent 4 kids to the principal's office, and another ended up getting a suspension) i'm taking today off. most of the classes that i taught were grouped by skill level; my writing class had children from 2nd - 6th grade in it. it was depressing to see children struggling so much with composing basic sentences, and i wish i could help more than i did. there was essentially no behavior management systems set in place and i spent most of the day trying to get them to stop fighting/throwing things/screaming/cursing. i think we spent about 45 minutes actually seated quietly and doing work. needless to say, my nerves are shot and i'm going to spend the day making donuts and following up on job applications.
