雲南風味 Yunnan Noodle Shop

I'd heard a lot about 雲南風味 and their Yunnan-style noodles which used to be made of horse meat. I don't think they do that anymore, though. Anyway, since we were in Sham Shui Po anyway, I dragged the Other Dude and her friend with me to the restaurant, not realizing that they weren't hungry. Oops.

This lady was really funny, she was super shocked when I said that I was going to be the only one eating, and she kept asking the OD and her friend, "Why aren't you eating??" She had a really good eye, though, because she immediately pegged the OD and her friend as being from Malaysia.

From what I understand, this place is famous for its claypot chicken. But I wanted to try their noodles, and I didn't think I could eat all of the chicken by myself, and I didn't want to waste HKD68.

I'll be back next time, oh well.

As you can see, most people have ordered either hot and sour noodles or 炸醬麵 -- what in the world is this in English? Fried sauce noodles? Anyway, pinyin is zha jiang mian, just look it up. And there was another type of noodles with chicken wing and fish balls, I forget the name.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm rather shameless when I'm in a restaurant with food I'm indecisive about. I made the lady take me around to the different tables and tell me what those people were eating before deciding.

Based on how many people were eating it, I ordered 炸醬麵. This makes me a really bad Hokkien person, but I don't really like noodles. I'm more of a rice dude, but this was pretty good. The noodles actually had a non-processed taste and flavour. The OD thought it was really salty but I actually enjoyed that.

Will definitely be back. 雲南風味 is at Camp Street, corner Un Chau Street. You can walk there from Cheung Sha Wan Road where all the shops are, or you can get off at Cheung Sha Wan MTR Station, Exit A2. Just keep walking towards Un Chau Street, take a right when you hit it, and you'll end up at Camp Street in about five minutes.
