Closed day spa merges with Creative Day Spa
OCEAN CITY -- After closing its doors earlier this month, Visions Day Spa has announced a merger with Creative Day Spa, another Ocean City salon.
It's a business deal those involved say will preserve jobs for some of the former Visions employees and expand services at Creative Day Spa.
Sandy James, owner of Creative Day Spa, says when Visions owner Kathie Cody decided to retire, she called her former teacher and employer to seek out an arrangement.
"Her biggest concern was that her staff would have secure, long-term employment," says James, who hired four former employees. "A few came here, a few went to other salons and some are doing hair at home."
To build on the merger Creative Day Spa, located at 137th Street Bayside Plaza, is getting a full-body makeover.
"It looks like a war zone right now, but it will be gorgeous in a few months," said James; she emphasized the salon will remain open during the renovation. "We have to explain to everyone over the phone and apologize for the mess."
Exterior renovations are ongoing for the next few months, but interior redecoration is expected to be completed by the end of March.
James says the spa will still keep its Caribbean feel.
Creative Day Spa is also expanding its services with the merger, while maintaining its current menu of more than 100 services ranging from hair cuts and colors to full body massages and facials.
Seaweed body wraps and a massage where class cups are used to remove toxins are among the new services being brought to the spa.
Although the former 122nd Street location of Visions will not be kept open by Creative, James says any gift certificates from Visions will be honored at Creative.
Creative Day Spa opened at Fifth Street in 1985, moving to its current location and turning into a full service spa 18 years ago.
Visions was opened by Cody 15 years ago.
