i wore this on new year's day to the mummer's day parade with jon and bryan. anthropologie was having a big sale - 25% off all sale - so i splurged on this velvet blazer and boots. they look very similar to another pair of gray boots that i've pretty much worn into the ground, so it was time for a new pair anyway. just go with it, okay?

new year's day in philadelphia is absolutely insane. at midnight, our neighbors set off hundreds of fireworks about a block from our house. i'm not talking little ones - these were huge (and probably very illegal). the parade starts early in the morning and begins in south philadelphia (where i live) and ends in center city. there's tons of noisemakers, public drinking, loud cheering, litter, and large men in sequined costumes. after the parade, all of the mummers head to second street ("2 street" if you're actually from there) and continue to drink profusely and party. with their teenage children. it's quite a sight!

i'm not one for making resolutions, let alone making them, but i'm working on some this year. i'm giving myself some concise guidelines so they're easier to accomplish; i have trouble completing vague tasks. have you made any resolutions for 2011? any that you'd like to share?

the midtown festival was this weekend in philadelphia; the blocks between locust and chestnut are closed, and all of the restaurants and shops that line the street set up booths and tents outside. most of the places are pretty expensive, but you can buy a plate of food from bindi for $7. el vez was selling margaritas for $5. it was ridiculously crowded, but the food and drink were definitely worth it.

you may notice that the last picture isn't just me - that'd be our very good friend, jon. he lives right around the corner from bryan and i. i think we spend more time with him than anyone else. anyway, he's such a stylish gentleman that i thought he deserved an outfit picture, too.

als0 - today is bryan's birthday. he's the big 2-5!
