hat: anthropologie
blouse: forever21
shorts: marc jacobs
camisole: forever21
clogs: nicole

i was lusting over these marc jacobs shorts for the longest time but couldn't reason with spending so much money on a pair of shorts. i checked all over for knock-offs (forever21, shop ruche, and modcloth) but didn't find anything similar. i decided to buy them, but only if i could somehow style them year-round (maybe with tights and boots in the fall?). i'm so glad i did! they're amazingly comfortable and relatively flattering, and will most likely be one of my summer staples. as for these pictures - we were driving up 95N to get to new jersey, and saw the most gorgeous little field on the side of the road. the light was amazing; the sun was just about to set and was almost disappearing behind the horizon. i love strong the sunbeams photographed, and the field reminds me a lot of where i grew up.

unfortunately, wedding dress shopping wasn't as successful. the bridal garden is really unique; they receive all their dresses for free from designers (or other brides) and donate all of the proceeds to programs for new york city children. after sifting through racks of satin and taffeta, i found a gorgeous sheer chiffon gown. it was the only dress i liked and cost...$4,000 (on sale!). can you believe that? the good thing is that i actually already have have a dress. i really do love it, but the bust is way too tight (i thought i could lose a couple of pounds. unfortunately, this doesn't happen when your diet consists of cheese and belgian beer). after nothing worked out at the bridal garden, i called my original shop and they said that exchanging the size was fine. if y'all are interested, maybe i could post a little sneak peek?

teacher's pet.

skirt: vintage
belt: forever21
sweater: old navy (crazy, right?)
shoes: PINK
biking ability: 8

whenever i think back on my elementary school teachers, the one thing i can distinctly remember is oversized floral dresses, usually with some sort of shoulder padding, and navy blue orthepedic pumps. as a future kindergarten or first grade teacher (hopefully!), i'm always interested in the different appropriate ways of dress for the profession. this outfit seems perfect for a teacher - a modest, comfortable skirt that's good for reading in a circle, running around the playground, and bustling about the classroom. the sweater is such a cheery color of yellow, and the bow makes it the slightest bit playful.

bryan and i are leaving for new york today. i'll be trying on wedding dresses at the bridal garden tomorrow - wish me luck!

cardigan: forever21
dress: urban outfitters

shoes: banana republic (surpisingly not difficult to bike in!)

bryan and i are heading to NYC this weekend - with work, school, etsy, and wedding planning, it's a much needed break from our normal routine. i always think it's ironic how overwhelmed i am when i'm in NYC, when i live in such a densely populated, loud, and arguably messy city. the second i pop out of the subway, my senses are completely overloaded; all of the bright lights, loud buses, flashy signs. we're visiting brooklyn for the first time this weekend, and i'm hoping that it will be much different than manhattan. we decided to bring bikes and ride in from new jersey over the george washington bridge, so comfort will definitely trump any ideas for a cute outfit.

anyone have any reccomendations for food, shopping, things to check out?
