i realized that i never gave you guys an update of our amazing honeymoon! it was such a blast - we visited prague, amsterdam, and brussels. i'm not sure if i've mentioned this before, but my whole family on my dad's side is from the czech republic, including his long-time girlfriend and her children. we ended up leaving the day after the wedding, and after an 8 hour flight and a 7 hour layover, we finally arrived in prague. i won't delve into all of the specifics (i'd be typing for days, no?), but we did a bunch of sightseeing. i took bryan to the prague castle, and took about a million pictures of the red-tiled roofs below. we also visited the oldest bar in the czech republic, u fleku. it was founded in 1499 and has a beer garden outside. the only beer that they sold was made in-house, and was delicious.
next stop, amsterdam.
oh amsterdam. i love you. and no, not because of the "coffee" shops (figured i'd get that out of the way right off of the bat) - i adore your flower-clad bicycles, your wood paneled houseboats, your tall shuttered houses. and don't get me started on those bridges. if the opportunity ever presented itself, i would move there in a heartbeat. bryan and i absolutely loved everything about the city; i couldn't get enough of the jordaan neighborhood, and we both loved the food. the city is stunning. i actually spent several days researching the housing market and teaching jobs. luckily, i have czech citizenship, and thus, the ability to live and work anywhere in the EU.
lastly, we went to brussels. i was actually kind of disappointed. everything was absurdly expensive, and there were a lot of abandoned and broken-down buildings. however, we spend a ton of time at the delirium taphouse. bryan was in heaven, to say the least. i found my new favorite beer of all time: floris cactus. we also visited the gare du midi market on the way to cantillion brewery (which was closed - i thought bryan was going to cry, no joke). i gorged on sugar waffles, middle eastern sandwiches, homemade mint tea, and all sorts of other tasty treats.
