Small shops like Haji that sell carefully-chosen, well-crafted pieces make me nervous. I pray that they stay in business and that people actually buy the expensive stuff there. Most of this is out of selfishness; as a goldsmith, the jewellery I make is quite pricey because of the labour and materials, plus they're all pretty much one of a kind. Not to mention the years I spent as an apprentice in Italy during which (among other accidents) I almost cut off my little toe, tore a ligament in my leg, had a second-degree burn on my palm, and got fat.
Anyway, the survival of shops like Haji gives me hope that there are still discerning folks out there who are willing to spend on quality stuff.
This is Haji's new outpost in Sheung Wan on Tai Ping Shan Street. It's just around the corner from Man Mo Temple on Hollywood Road, in case you're wondering. Isn't it pretty?
See what I mean? This is the only stuff for sale in the shop! Am I just too used to overstuffed shops?
Perhaps the high prices help pay the rent, which I imagine must be crippling. These Daisy Dukes are a collaboration between Haji and Japanese brand RMC. They are just over HKD1000 (around USD130).
I love these pouches from Artisan & Artist! The underwear details are really cute. I didn't check the price, though.
Haji has also got another shop in Causeway Bay at 19 Sharp Street. It's on the third floor. They've also got a shop at Gi Plus on Canton Road in Tsim Sha Tsui.
