Wellness Week Takes The Pain Out Of Spa Treatment Costs

Heading to the spa may not only be relaxing, but may even bolster your health, and now a special week later this month will make sure that local spa treatments are not harmful to the wallet. NY1's Health reporter Kafi Drexel filed the following report.
Sometimes a trip to the spa can provide a health fix, but it can also take a bit of the zen out of the wallet. SpaFinder.com is changing that with a "Wellness Week" from March 21-27 that has dozens of New York City spas offer healthful services for half the normal cost.

"SpaFinder Wellness Week is similar to Restaurant Week, in the sense that people can go and sample all kinds of different spa treatments and wellness services, at a very good price for one week," says SpaFinder.com Chief Operating Officer Sallie Fraenkel.

At Yin Beauty & Arts Spa in the Upper West Side, an hour of acupuncture normally costs $150, but will be half-off during Wellness Week.
"Acupuncture can treat many problems even Western medicine cannot treat," claims Dr. Jia Kang, a licensed acupuncturist. "So we use acupuncture to treat women's problems such as infertility, autoimmune system problems, diabetes control, weight loss and even mental issues like depression or stress."
At Randee Elaine Spa & Laser Center in Greenwich Village, a Wellness Week deal includes teeth whitening for $50, a service that would normally cost hundreds of dollars.

"What we use is a bleach. It has hydrogen peroxide in it and it goes over the teeth, the facial area of the teeth, and what it does is it removes and breaks away the stains and we use UV light to accelerate the process," says spa manager Matthew Gambino. "Instead of sitting here for three hours, they only have to sit here for 45 minutes."

After scoring brighter smiles, Whole Health Wellness Center and MedSpa in SoHo can help customers keep off the weight with a multi-pronged approach. The facility provides acupuncture to target hunger and digestion, nutrition counseling and slimming spa treatments.
The cost of a 60-minute weight-loss consultation will be halved to $30.

"People said the number-one goal for 2011 is weight loss, so we're here and you've come to the right place," says Whole Health Center & MedSpa managing partner JJ Jin.
