evergreen.

dress: from jenloveskev, via delightful dozen
blouse: free people, forever ago
belt: forever21
necklace: vintage
shoes: aldo
purse: le mode accessories, via delightful dozen

this pretty shift dress and bag have been making the rounds in the delightful dozen. as they hung next to each other on my clothing rack in my office, i realized how well they went together. they're traditionally fall-time colors, i suppose, but i think the whole shebang has a slight springtime vibe, no? maybe not? perhaps it's just the bare legs and the shoes. i found this pair and it was love at first sight. y'all know that i'm a huge fan of doilies/anything crocheted, so i had to snatch these up. i can see myself pairing them with white cotton dresses and vintage denim skirts for the summer.

the beach was a blast yesterday! the jersey shore was much colder and windier than it was in philadelphia, but we still had a good time. we quickly stopped in atlantic city on the way home for dinner; not my favorite town, but the casinos are interesting to look at. that's one of my favorite things about living in philadelphia - it's so easy to get to so many different places. the beach is only 1.5 hours away, nyc is 2 hours away, and you can make it to d.c. in under 3 hours. it's very convenient!

dress: threadsence via delightful dozen
belt: gap, years ago
socks: courtesy of modcloth
shoes: chloe

this gorgeous dress came to me from tieka. with the dramatic draping on the front, there wasn't a need for colorful or excessive accessories. one of my favorite color combination is smokey grays and tan; there's just something so simple and classic about those two shades together. i pulled out almost all of the nude-colored accessories that i have; the first was this velvet elastic belt that i've had since i was uh, 13. it's adjustable (the only reason why it still fits) and i love the buckle on the front. the crocheted tights added another level of texture to the whole shebang; i slapped on these chloe sandals that i snagged on ebay. i've only just recently been able to wear them since the weather is warmer, and i'm surprised at how comfortable they are.

my demonstration lesson was today, and i have to say...it went really well! i don't want to get my hopes up or anything, but they asked me to email them my salary requirements and that they'd be in touch. they commented that i "controlled the class better than the normal teacher" and "an outsider would never be able to tell that they weren't my students." after the last lesson, i really worked hard and prepared myself for today, so i feel that some gratuitous horn-tooting is in order (just a little). nothing is definite yet, but i've passed the next step! i feel so much better now, particularly because i was so disappointed with my performance last time. it'll probably be a couple of days before i hear back from the school, i'm trying not to get my hopes up in the meantime.

carry all.

i've put together a little tutorial for the delightful dozen blog for this satchel. it's made from heavy canvas and scrap leather, and i think i might be addicted to making them. my mom is definitely getting one, and my sister is on the list too. perhaps i'll have to make one for a giveaway on tick tock vintage, if it's of any interest to y'all...

day to night: blue modcloth skirt, day edition.

vest: vintage
shirt: american apparel
skirt: modcloth cabin fever sale
tights and socks: h&m
shoes: vintage

so, probably the most casual outfit that i've ever posted on tick tock vintage before - no heels, ma! my post today on the delightful dozen blog is a new feature that i'm very excited to work on; i'm choosing an item from my closet and dressing it down for daytime and up for nighttime. this is sort of a challenge for me for two reasons; one, it's much easier for me to dress up. give me a pair of heels and a feminine dress and i'm good to go. two, i usually buy an item with a specific outfit in mind; it's hard for me to see beyond whatever i imagined the item for, if that makes sense. you can read all about it on my newest delightful dozen post!

this weekend was hectic beyond belief. the clothing swap was very fun, but so much work! i got there four hours early to set up and it took me the whole four hours to make signs, set up the tables and racks, sort through 14 trash bags and 2 tubs of clothing (and that's just what jen and i brought). i got to meet mandy and leah, they're both super sweet. i ended up leaving with some blouses, two dresses, and a little jacket. i think it went successfully, and i can't wait to plan another for the fall. i'll post some pictures of the swap later this week. thanks to everyone who participated and spread the word around!

now that my studio had been cleared of a massive amount of vintage, i spent all of sunday cleaning and sorting and organizing. the room had become, well, a mess - i found things that i had totally forgot about (my antique greeting card collection, rubber stamps) and realized that i have 4 giant floppy straw hats. whoops. i think i'm going to use the room as a place to store my teaching materials and lesson plans, as well as a place work on crafts and sewing. there's still a ton of vintage shoes that i need to sort through; they'll most likely be making an appearance on my blog shop later this week.

how was your weekend?

dress, worn as a blouse: anthropologie, borrow from annie (via delightful dozen)
belt: vintage
boots: vintage
skirt: urban outfitters

the colors of this outfit remind me of autumn, which is sort of odd since we had our first signs of spring today. philadelphia reached seventy degrees! i picked up this skirt at urban outfitters on super-clearance (i think it was $13). i have two skirts from there that i wear all the time (in blue and tan) and i think it's time that i added some variety to the mix. the top is actually a dress, but by the time i had belted it, i felt a little...overexposed. i think the skirt helps to break up the print a bit, and lets your eye focus on the pretty flowers and swirls.

these boots are a new thrifting find; they're suspiciously similar to my cowboy boots but actually in a size that fits my feet. the thrift store that we visited never had anything the prior times that i shopped, but i left with quite a lot today - a straw hat, couple of skirts, and boots. i'm hoping to make some trips home for some spring shopping. i can't wait to not have to wear tights every day!

i'm off for some mexican food and margaritas, hope y'all have a great weekend. mine's going to be filled with long runs, spring cleaning, mending, and organizing for the clothing swap (if you haven't RSVP'ed yet, please do! it's going to be a blast).

secret santa swap.

dress: delightful dozen secret santa present from tieka, forever21
shirt: american apparel
belt: vintage
tights: h&m
shoes: kensie, courtesy of modcloth
necklace: vintage

the delightful dozen had a secret santa swap back in december. tieka and i were partners and she sent me this adorable dress (along with some knee socks!). the colors and pattern remind me of something that joan from mad men would wear, but the fit is definitely easier to wear on an everyday basis. layering it with a shirt underneath makes it comfortable for winter, but i think it's a perfect summer sundress, too. throw on some sandals and put your hair in a ponytail and you're good to go! being in the delightful dozen has been such a blast so far, and i'm so happy i joined.

i've been thinking of doing a little beehive tutorial. i know that there are some really good videos already out there (i'm thinking of aya and carrie specifically), but i figured i'd try my hand at it. i'm on the fence about talking y'all through or just recording my method, as i have a tendency to ramble. my parents used to call me ramblin' rose as a kid because i couldn't shut my piehole. apparently much hasn't changed since then.

ramble ramble.

desaturated.

dress: modcloth, worn as a blouse via delightful dozen
shorts: century 21
belt: vintage
brooch: vintage
boots: steve madden

i think this the least amount of color i've ever worn; i feel like i was inspired by eeyore. i'm usually not one for bright colors but you know i can't get enough of peachy pinks and soft blues. i feel like i've completely desaturated my outfit. when tieka offered this dress up for some delightful dozen swappin', i jumped at the chance. it's not typically something i'd choose for myself, but i love the color and the little hint of lace - which matched perfectly with these lacey shorts. the whole get-up seemed a bit bland, even with the lacy tights, so i added the little brooch (which usually lives on my blazer).

i do believe this is the first time that i've ever worn flat shoes on this here blog; let's just say that it's not going to be a normal occurrence. i purchased a spectacularly high pair of shoes today, and i'll be back to my normal teetering and tottering about the house tomorrow.

keep on runnin'.

dress: delightful dozen swap with annie of time enough for drums
belt: vintage
lace collar and pin: vintage
socks: h&m
shoes: steve madden

my first delightful dozen post! i couldn't have picked a better garment to start out with; annie's plaid dress is ridiculously adorable, right? i actually look for vintage long sleeved mini-dresses all the time and have the worst luck finding them. asos has a couple of cute ones, namely this sheer gray dress or this gorgeous eyelet lace frock.

i spent all of yesterday working on resume packets to send to charter schools and school districts. by early afternoon, i had written 37 cover letters. needless to say, my fingers are aching! it's so time intensive; not only do you send a resume, but also a cover letter, clearances, recommendations, standardized test scores (called PRAXIS) and the pennsylvania standard teaching application. it's a lot of paper! job searching is always so stressful for me; the uncertainty of when you'll get a call-back or where you'll be placed makes me nervous. i wish i could fast-forward time to where i actually start teaching again.

do you enjoy your time off between jobs? or do you fret until you find a new one?
